Requirements for the Minor in Geography

The department offers 2 minor options. The first is a general minor in geography. The second is specifically designed to give students a background in geographic information science. Students should carefully consider which minor best meets their academic goals before choosing one.


The minor option in geography requires 18 hours of geography courses with at least 12 hours numbered 300 or above and a minimum grade-point average of 2.0 in courses taken for the minor.

Geographic Information Science

The minor option in geographic information science requires 18 hours including

  1. GEOG 111 or GEOG 210, and GEOG 316 and GEOG 358;
  2. 3 additional courses from the Geographic Information Science group (300-level or above); and
  3. A minimum grade-point average of 2.0 in courses taken for the minor.
