PRVM 846: Health Economics (3)

This course is designed to explore the application of economic theories, principles and concepts to the U.S. medical care system. Students will demonstrate an understanding of: the difference between health care and medical care and the place of medical care in the economic system; the role of social values in economic principles and societal decision making; the determinants of supply and demand of medical care services with particular attention to the relationship between supplier and demand and need and demand; complements and substitutes as they apply to medical care services; the unique nature of the medical care product; the interrelatedness of markets; the principles of and demand for health insurance and its role in the demand for medical care services; the role of government in the medical care system.
