This course will demonstrate an understanding of the difference between health care and medical care and the place of medical care in the economic system; the role of social values and economic principles in societal decision making and the utilization of health care services; the role of NEED in the utilization of health care services; the public and private financing of the health care system; the organization of resources and types of managed care systems; the unique payment and the reimbursement mechanisms in the health care system; and the role of government in the health care system.
