HIST 444: Frozen in Time: Politics and Culture in the Cold War, 1945-75 (3)

This course deals with the interactions between Cold War culture and domestic and international politics chiefly from the American and to some degree comparative perspective. It focuses on the period 1945-1975, and makes use of films, television, music, works of science fiction and related genres, and other cultural manifestations to examine such themes as programs of domestic and international repression, consensus politics, cultural imperialism, gender roles, and class, status, and racial dynamics in the context of what was perceived as bipolar rivalry.
