B.S. Degree Requirements

This program requires 2 years of undergraduate college course work including a minimum of 63 semester credit hours at KU Lawrence campus, or at another university or community college and 2 years of professional courses at KU Medical Center. To obtain a bachelor’s degree from KU, a student must earn the last 30 hours of credit for the degree by resident study. Transfer students should be aware that all transfer courses for which they have requested credit must be equivalent to courses required at KU, or additional course work will be required. All other degree requirements must be fulfilled.

The health information management curriculum is offered during the junior and senior years. A 4-week management internship is required at the end of the senior spring semester. For details of the curriculum, including a year-by-year list of course sequence, visit the department's website.

The Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) degree-completion program is designed specifically for RHITs who already hold an associate's degree in health information technology and want to earn a bachelor's degree in health information administration. This program is completely online, and there is no on-campus requirement. The flexibility of online learning allows RHIT professionals to continue working while furthering their education.

Program requirements and course offerings are subject to change. Prospective students should contact the department for the latest information.
