Undergraduate Advising

Engineering students are advised by engineering faculty members. Students are assigned an adviser by their engineering departments.

Each entering first-year student is encouraged to attend KU’s summer New Student Orientation. At the summer orientation program, students are advised on course selection for the fall semester and given the opportunity to enroll. Students who cannot attend the orientation program confer with their advisers a day or two before classes start.

Each semester before enrollment, students see their faculty advisers to plan schedules and discuss academic and career interests. Advising holds are placed for all students each semester; once a student has met with an adviser, the hold is released. Students are encouraged to call on their advisers any time during the school year if they wish to change their schedules or discuss other matters. Consultation with an adviser is recommended before making schedule changes.

Undecided engineering majors are advised in the Office of the Dean, 1 Eaton Hall, 785-864-3881.

Graduate Advising

Graduate advising generally is done at the department and program level. Graduate students should contact the director of graduate studies in their department or program.

All graduate students on the Lawrence campus, as well as those enrolled in CEAE and EECS courses on the KU Edwards campus, must have an approved Plan of Study on file by the beginning of their second semester of study. Click here to create or update a plan. All students must have an updated Plan of Study on record in order to graduate.

Students enrolled in the Engineering Management program should contact Engineering Management program personnel to set up a Plan of Study.
