Requirements for the Graduate Certificate in African Studies

The graduate certificate in African Studies requires the completion of 12 credit hours of graduate course work distributed as follows:

  1. AAAS 680 Introduction to Modern Africa (3 credit hours) or
    AAAS 802 Introduction to Africana Studies II: African (3  credit hours)
  2. 3 courses (9 credit hours), 1 of which must be at the 700 level or above. These 3 courses must be coherently designed, and students are expected to consult with a designated graduate adviser for course work advising and pre-approval.
