We are pleased that you are considering the University of Kansas (KU) as one
of your college choices. Selecting a college with appropriate support services
that meet your needs will be an important factor in your decision. At KU, the
mission of Disability Resources (DR) is to facilitate appropriate
resources, services and auxiliary aids to allow each qualified student with
a disability to equitably access educational, social, and career opportunities at KU.
Components of DR include staff program coordinators/ specialists with expertise
in the areas of Learning Disabilities/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders,
Physical Disabilities, Psychological, Deafness & Hard of Hearing and Blindness
& Visual Impairment. While the staff will diligently strive to make each
student's experience at KU an enriching one, it is the responsibility of each
student to maintain contact with DR and inform us of his/her needs. DR is
just one of the many resources available to students at KU. Qualified students
are encouraged to utilize services available throughout the campus (e.g., Academic Achievement and Access Center,
Writing Center, Math Lab), as well as services through our office.
In order to be eligible for DR services a student must:
Be admitted to KU. Admission to KU is handled directly through the Admissions
Office, (i.e., there is no special admission procedure through DR). If you
have not applied to the University, please contact: Undergraduate Admissions or Graduate Admissions
Provide our office with qualifying documentation of your disability. See
our documentation guidelines by clicking here.
There are no additional fees for DR services regardless of full or part-time status.
To schedule a visit regarding services and related disability consultation, please schedule an appointment as far
ahead as possible by calling Disability Resources at 785-864-2620.
After Being Admitted To KU, What Should Students Do?
Register for New Student Orientation
If you require accommodations that are time-intensive (e.g. books on tape,
e-text, sign-language interpreting) upon registering for classes during orientation,
provide DR with a copy of your schedule.
