2012 CESSI Applications Available! : The application for the Central Eurasian Studies Summer Institute (CESSI) is now available!
The Central Eurasian Studies Summer Institute (CESSI) at UW-Madison will offer instruction in first- and second-year Kazakh, Uyghur, Uzbek, and Tajik in summer 2012.

New Dual-Degree JD/MA REES Academic Program Opens at KU : The University of Kansas School of Law and the Center for Russian, East European & Eurasian Studies announce a new academic program for students pursuing graduate degrees in both Law and Russian, Eastern European, and Eurasian Studies (REES). The program offers a five-year dual degree curriculum of intensive legal, foreign language, and international area study that can be completed in four years. Posted Nov 28, 2011
New Ukrainian Studies Scholarship Offered by the Jarosewycz Family : CREES now offers a new scholarship for MA students in Ukrainian studies. The scholarship will support top REES graduate students who have shown commitment and scholarly interest in Ukraine and Ukrainian studies. Clowes was recently interviewed by Radio Free Europe about her new book, Russia on the Edge: Imagined Geographies and Post-Soviet Identity, which investigates the geographical conception of identity for Russians following the demise of the Soviet Union. Mediterranean Studies Association International Congress : The Mediterranean Studies Association's 15th annual International Congress will take place May 30 - June 2, 2012, at Juraj Dobrila University, Pula, Croatia. Viktor Yushchenko to receive 2011 Dole Leadership Prize : The Dole Institute of Politics will present the 2011 Dole Leadership Prize to former Ukrainian president and Orange Revolution leader, Viktor Yushchenko. The prize will be given Monday, Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Dole Institute. The program is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Posted Sep 13, 2011
Conference: Identity and Community after the Cold War Era : The last two decades have witnessed the confluence of many different kinds of radical change, the demise of communism as a force in politics, the resurgence of religious community, the emergence of global warming as a major challenge to traditional economies and communities, and the innovative growth of technology. CREES Essay Competition : The Laird Essay Competition allows KU students to submit a "think piece" essay on a key issue relevant to the region. Deadline is Monday, March 22, 2010. The winner will receive $750, a book of his or her choice, a certificate, his or her name on a plaque, and an impressive line on the resume.
