The University of Kansas has one of the richest traditions in debate in the nation. KU has sent more teams to the National Debate Tournament (NDT) than any other college or university, and has recently begun a tradition of competition in the Cross-Examination Debate Association that will surely bring it comparable recognition. KU debaters have reached the final four of the NDT 12 times (10 times since 1970), qualified for the tournament over 30 consecutive years, and had over 70 individual team appearances. KU debaters have won the coveted national title four times. While the national titles are themselves impressive, the cumulative total of over 11,000 debates won and nearly 2,500 team and individual awards puts KU Debate in a class of its own.
