Dr. Mary Banwart Wins a Kemper Award

Mary Banwart becomes the 12th Communication Studies Faculty Member to Win the Prestigious Kemper Award

Alesia Hanzal Joins the Faculty

Dr. Alesia Hanzal, who completed her degree at the University of Arizona, where she studied with two former Jayhawks, Dr. Chris Segrin and Dr. Jake Harwood, will begin teaching as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Fall 2008.  According to Department Chair, Robert Rowland, "We were thrilled when Alesia agreed to become a Jayhawk.  She is already a fine scholar and teacher and we have every confidence she will develop into a leading scholar in interpersonal communication."

Mary Banwart Wins Promotion and Tenure

Dr. Mary Banwart was promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure in Spring 2008.  Dr. Banwart's teaching and research focus on political communication.  She also directs the Leadership Minor.  Dr. Banwart focuses her research on gender and communication.  She already has published a number of articles in the area in addition to a well-regarded book.  Department Chair Robert Rowland commented that "Given Mary's record, her promotion was hardly a surprise. She has done a fine job and we expect great things from her in the future!"
