Dr. Amy Schmisseur, Ph.D, University of Texas at Austin
Dr. Schmisseur's research interests focus on the communicative practices of self within the organization, namely how social support, emotional labor, identification, social identity, and management of meaning processes intersect with the more general processes of communication and action in organizations, such as planned change implementation, organizational image creation and maintenance, and corporate culture. Her most current work focuses on the emotionality of planned change efforts and how change agents communicatively manage their emotions. Dr. Schmisseur's teaching interests cover a wide range of subjects both at the graduate and undergraduate level, including emotions in organizations, organizational change, principles of interviewing, sales communication, leadership, and organizational representation. Prior to coming to KU, Dr. Schmisseur worked in sales management and served as an assistant instructor at the University of Texas at Austin. In 2002, she was awarded the Texas Excellence Teaching Award in the College of Communication and was recognized as the Most Outstanding Assistant Instructor by the Department of Communication.
