Dr. Childers' research and teaching are in the areas of rhetoric and political communication, paying particular attention to the intersection of communication and community.  Specifically, he looks at how the communicative practices of political elites, media, and citizens impact political community.  He has authored a number of articles and book chapters, including pieces that have appeared in Presidential Studies Quarterly, American Behavioral Scientist and The International Encyclopedia of Communication.
