Readmission to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

All former KU students (those who have completed at least one hour of credit) must submit a readmission application by the application deadline if they did not attend for at least one full fall or spring semester.

Applications for readmission for a particular semester or questions about the admissions process are handled by the Office of Admissions which also maintains a more detailed list of application deadlines for all applicants.

Applications for readmission for International Students are available through International Undergraduate Admissions, (785) 864-2616, 17 Strong Hall. Application deadlines for international students may vary, so please plan on applying early and work closely with International Undergraduate Admissions.

All students are encouraged to meet with an advisor prior to enrolling and submit all transcripts for coursework you may have taken while you were away from KU.  If you have questions regarding your transfer work you should check the credit transfer pageon admissions.  It is important for your transfer work to be posted prior to your meeting with an advisor so that a full assessment on how your transfer coursework relates to a KU degree can be completed.

Readmission on Probation Instructions

  1. Apply to the Office of Admissions by posted deadline.

  2. Send any transfer work that was completed during your absence from KU to the Office of Admissions.

  3. Plan to meet with an academic advisor.

If you are undeclared then you should meet with your advisor in
University Advising Center, (785) 864-2834.  If you are declared then you can meet with your department advisoror an advisor in Student Academic Services, (785) 864-3500.  If you are a senior you should meet with your graduation advisor in Student Academic Services, (785) 864-3500.

  4. Enroll in the appropriate Math or English class, if you have not already successfully completed ENGL 102 or MATH 101 or their equivalents.

  5. Prepare to meet your probation requirements every term, including summer, until your KU cumulative GPA reaches or exceeds a 2.00.

  6.      Failure to meet probation requirements, including the summer term, will result in an academic dismissal.

  7. Be enrolled in your classes prior to the first day of class.

  8.      Petitions to late enroll are likely not to be accepted for students that have below a 2.00 KU cumulative GPA.

Readmission after Dismissal Instructions

  1. Apply to the Office of Admissions by posted deadline.

  2.     It is appropriate for you to apply before your required coursework is completed.  Please do not wait until your official transcripts
are ready because you may miss important application deadlines.

  3. Send in all of your transcripts for the coursework you have taken since your dismissal.  All transcripts must be submitted one week prior to the official start of the semester.

No decision will be made until all transcripts, showing that all coursework is completed, have been officially submitted to the Office of Admissions.

  4. If you have met all application and transcript deadlines, and satisfied your readmission after dismissal requirements you will be readmitted on probation.

If you have not met your readmission after dismissal requirements you can petition but the likelihood of an approval is very rare and you must be able to demonstrate why you were or currently are unable to complete our minimum requirements.

  5. Prepare to earn a 2.50 KU term GPA every term, including summer, or you will face another academic dismissal.

    A third dismissal is final.

  6. Plan to meet with an academic advisor.  Call (785) 864-3500 to schedule an appointment.

Your first goal upon your return is to get off of probation rather than trying to catch up on the coursework you missed.  You will be strongly encouraged to take only 12-14 hours and to limit the number of major hours.

If all that you need is major hours you may want to come back part time and concentrate on doing well in few classes than mediocre in an abundance of coursework.  We have seen students that try to complete 15 to 18 hours of upper level coursework fail to meet their probation requirements and earn a second or third (final) dismissal.

  7. Be enrolled in your classes prior to the first day of class.

Petitions to late enroll are likely not to be accepted for students that have below a 2.00 KU cumulative GPA.
