Academic Probation &

Academic Dismissal

Students who fall below the cumulative KU GPA of 2.00 are placed on probation.  Failure to meet probation requirements will result in an academic dismissal.

Freshmen and Sophomores on Probation
Must earn a 2.00 KU term GPA or raise KU cumulative to a 2.00 or higher.
Juniors and Seniors on Probation
Must earn a 2.50 KU term GPA or raise KU cumulative to a 2.00 or higher.
Readmission after a College Dismissal
Must earn a 2.50 KU term GPA or raise KU cumulative to a 2.00 or higher.

Additionally, students on probation are required to fill out a probation contract prior to adding or enrolling in current or future terms. Failure to sign a probation contract does not change the requirements of the Academic Standing Policy.

If you have additional questions, please review the Academic Standing and Dismissal Policy.

Academic Dismissal

Students who fail to meet probation requirements will be academically dismissed.   Probation gives a student time to demonstrate that he/she is able to perform at a satisfactory academic level.  If a student fails to meet probation requirements, dismissal gives him/her time away from the University to refocus academic goals.  While many students believe continued enrollment is the best and only way of improving academic performance, this is most often not the case. In fact, staying enrolled may only compound a student’s problems.  If, however, a student can demonstrate that extenuating circumstances prevented him/her from meeting the requirements under academic probation, he/she may submit a petition for immediate reinstatement.

To return to the University of Kansas, dismissed students must meet their readmission after dismissal requirements.  Third dismissals are final.
