Albert O. Greef Translation Award
Awarded to the best translation of passages from Greek and/or Latin literature. The competition is open to any student currently enrolled in a Greek or Latin course.
Tenney Frank Freshman Scholarships
Merit-based scholarship of up to $1000 awarded to entering Classics majors. Recipients may specialize in Classical Antiquity or Classical Languages (Latin and Greek). High school seniors and transfer students are encouraged to apply. In addition to the application materials required by the Office of Admissions and Scholarships, the Classics department requires two letters of recommendation (sent directly to the Classics Department, ATTN: Tenney Frank Scholarships). Tenney Frank Undergraduate Scholarships
Merit-based scholarship awarded to outstanding undergraduate Classical Antiquity or Classical Languages majors for continuing study of the classics, determined by the Classics faculty.
Hannah Oliver Latin Prize
Awarded to a junior or senior majoring in Classical Languages, determined by a competitive, handicapped exam. Exam date to be announced.
Sterling-Walker Prize in Greek
Awarded to any student (undergraduate or graduate) enrolled in a Greek course, determined by a competitive, handicapped exam. Exam date to be announced.
Austin Lashbrook Award
Awarded to a classics undergraduate major or graduate student for outstanding overall contribution to the Classics program as determined by the Classics faculty.
Mildred Lord Greef Essay Award
Awarded to any undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in a Classics course for the best paper on a classical topic written since the beginning of the previous spring semester.
Tenney Frank Award for Foreign Study
Awarded by a vote of Classics departmental faculty to any classics major or classics graduate student who will be studying abroad.
Tenny Frank Graduate Fellowship
The Classics Department at the University of Kansas offers the Tenney Frank Graduate Fellowship for study toward the Master of Arts in Classical Languages. This fellowship, which supplements the stipend offered to graduate teaching assistants, supports full-time graduate work in Greek or Latin. Teaching responsibilities are limited to one course or equivalent.
Graduate Teaching Assistantships
Currently include a stipend of $11,300 per academic year, plus full tuition waiver and health benefits (renewable). Applicants should also apply for other Scholarships and Fellowships at the University of Kansas. Our application materials include information about the other opportunities, some of which increase the stipend to $14,000.
Deadline: Flexible, but some fellowships require January or February application. Open until positions are filled.
