Graduate Teaching Assistantships


The Classics Department at the University of Kansas offers several Graduate Teaching Assistantships. Graduate Teaching Assistants teach sections of beginning Latin, or assist in Classics 148 (our lecture course in Greek and Roman Mythology). Occasionally assistants also teach Greek or intermediate Latin. All Teaching Assistants receive faculty supervision and support.

Graduate Teaching Assistants pay no tuition, and they receive health benefits in addition to a stipend. The annual stipend is approximately $14,000. Additional scholarships and research positions are also available.

Deadline for Application: Flexible. We usually recruit new teaching assistants each winter and early spring (to start in the following fall), but we are sometimes able to add new positions on short notice (to start in August or in January). If you wish to be nominated for a Graduate Fellowship (including the Graduate Teaching Assistantship for Diversity and the Honors Fellowship), please communicate with us by early January. The Classics Department does not require that you submit GRE scores, but the GRE is required for nomination for a Graduate Fellowship.
