Steeples Service to Kansans Award
The Steeples Service to Kansans Award is an annual award that recognizes two faculty in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences who provide significant service to the people of Kansas as a purposeful extension to their teaching and research. The award amount is $1,000. In addition, each recipient will receive a $1,000 base adjustment to their salary.

Career Achievement Teaching Award
This annual award recognizes a retired faculty member in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences who has made a significant contribution to the teaching of College students at either the undergraduate or graduate level and who has distinguished her or himself through excellence in teaching. The award amount is $1,000.

Outstanding Thesis/Research Project Award
The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Committee on Graduate Studies has established two annual awards for Master’s Degree students. They are the Outstanding Thesis Award and the Outstanding Research Project (Non-Thesis) Award. The awards were established in 1996 and carry a $500 stipend. The awards will be presented at the Master’s Hooding Ceremony on May 20, 2006. Students are nominated for award by their advisor. Each department may nominate one master’s student for each award. Students earning their master’s degrees in August 2006, December 2006, and May 2007 are eligible.

J. Michael Young Academic Advisor Award
This award is given to any tenured or tenure-track faculty member in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (CLA&S) who advises undergraduate students in the College. One award is given in each of the three divisions of the College: social sciences, humanities, and natural sciences. The award is given to Advisors who have given quality time and who have genuinely helped KU students make good decisions about their educational and career goals.

Byron A. Alexander/ John C. Wright Graduate Mentor Awards
Graduate students (current, or those who have graduated within the past year) may nominate any faculty member (tenured or tenure-track) in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences who has served as an outstanding mentor. Two awards will be available.

Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Advising
This award honors a department or program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences that is doing exemplary work to improve advising at KU. The award amount is $1000.

Howard J. Baumgartel Peace and Justice Award
The Howard J. Baumgartel Peace and Justice Award is an annual award to support a graduate student in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences or the School of Business for thesis or dissertation research whose interests, achievements, and talents are in the peace and justice field. The award amount is $2500.00 and will be disbursed in May of 2007.

Jessie Marie Senor Cramer & Ann Cramer Root Faculty Awards

      Spanish and Portuguese

    The Cramer Award is given annually to recognize meritorious teaching and/or research. The current award amount is $5,000. There is one Cramer Award available for 2006.

      The Cramer Award is given annually to recognize meritorious teaching and/or research. The current award amount is $5,000. There is one Cramer Award available for 2006.
