Who Should Apply?
Undergraduates who are majoring in chemistry or a closely related field, and who are considering a career--and perhaps graduate work--in chemistry, are encouraged to apply. Courses in general, organic and analytical chemistry should be completed before the start of the program. At least a semester of physical chemistry is useful for some projects. Most applicants will probably be completing their junior year but well-prepared sophomores should also apply.
A good academic record, especially in chemistry, will, of course, strengthen an application but evidence of interest in chemical research is a major consideration. The program is not designed for students who will have graduated. We especially encourage applications from women and underrepresented minorities.
