Year 1


Spring

  • Apply to program
  • Identify and select a faculty mentor with the help of the program coordinator
  • Participate in program meetings
  • Complete Biology 420: Research Design and Methods at KU
  • Attend the Haskell-KU Student Research Symposium in April

Summer

  • Participate in a research experience
  • Participate in program meetings
  • Meet with program coordinator or assistant periodically for advising
  • Present research progress at the SELF Symposium in July

Fall

  • Opportunity to continue research experience
  • Participate in program meetings
  • Meet with program coordinator or assistant periodically for advising
  • Enroll in Biology 380: Colloquium at Haskell
  • Present research progress at the SACNAS national conference in October
  • Identify and apply for summer undergraduate research experience programs with the assitance of the program coordinator

Year 2+


Spring

  • Opportunity to continue research experience
  • Participate in program meetings
  • Meet with program coordinator or assistant periodically for advising
  • Present research progress at the Haskell-KU Student Research Symposium in April
  • Apply for SACNAS travel scholarship by May 1
  • Apply to KU IMSD program

Summer

  • Complete a summer undergraduate research experience off-campus

Fall

  • Opportunity to continue research experience
  • Complete English 332: Writing in the Sciences
  • Participate in program meetings
  • Meet with program coordinator or assistant periodically for advising
  • Present research progress at the SACNAS national conference in October
  • Complete application to KU or another 4-year institution
