About BNCD

The Center for Biobehavioral Neurosciences in Communication Disorders is funded by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders ( P30-DC005803). BNCD is affiliated with the Schiefelbusch Institute for Life Span Studies at the University of Kansas. It is directed by Mabel L. Rice. Currently, 13 BNCD researchers are addressing the causes and treatment of communication disorders across the life span from infancy to old age.

Services

ATT - Advanced Techniques and Technology Core
ATT provides investigators with the ability to use new methods, including mixed modeling, structural equation modeling and dynamic structural modeling, as well as new techniques for time-series analysis.

DEEC - Digital Electronics and Engineering Core
DEEC provides expertise to investigators in applications of electronic instrumentation; for example, translating biological events into digital signals to produce the most effective graphical output. Technical assistance by DEEC provides support in the configuration and maintenance of digital and analog data acquisition, stimulus control, and analysis systems.

PARC - Participant Recruitment and Management Core
PARC connects investigators with potential research participants through community outreach and data warehousing. PARC assists investigators by mapping data, such as census and school district information through the use of a geographic information system to target potential recruitment areas.
