The Office of Business & Financial Planning
The Office of Business and Financial Planning is responsible for a variety of university wide financial matters and is the liaison with a number of affiliated corporations, the Kansas Board of Regents, and other state agencies.
The Office is responsible for all aspects of bond financing for the University including reviewing and approving all bond financing, overseeing compliance with bond covenants, and monitoring bond ratios and debt capacity.
The Office prepares and submits the university agenda items to the Kansas Board of Regents, and prepares Director’s Approvals for routine items.
The Office reviews and approves the capital budget request for the Lawrence and Medical Center campuses and oversees submission of the Repair and Renovation project list for each campus
The Office works with KUEA staff on real estate, property, and lease related issues and coordinates campus real estate issues. The Office also works with KUEA staff on any financial matters related to accounts controlled by the Chancellor and bequests made to the University.
The Office of Business & Financial Planning oversees the finances of departments reporting directly to the Chancellor, and monitors insurance for the University’s buildings and their contents.
The University Airplane Department is also a part of the Office of Business & Financial Planning.
Lori began working in Business & Financial Planning in 1998. Since 2001 she has worked solely in the University Airplane Department scheduling aircraft for the Lawrence campus, KU Medical Center and Wichita School of Medicine. She is also responsible for the billing and accounts payable for the Department.
Prior to transferring to KU in 1995, Lori worked seven years at K-State and another seven years in Topeka at SRS and the State Department of Education.
Lori is a Wamego native. She enjoys watching a variety of sports and spending time with her grandchildren.
Theresa has been the Chief Business and Financial Planning Officer since 1997. She began work at KU as a student assistant in the Office of Business and Fiscal Affairs while working on a bachelor's degree in business at KU. She was named Assistant University Director in 1986 and Associate University Director in 1989.
As CBFPO, Theresa has financial oversight of capital improvement projects on both Lawrence and Medical Center campuses, and development of bond issues. Additionally, she is the Secretary/Treasurer to Kansas Athletics, Inc., a member of the KUCR Executive Committee and the University’s financial liaison to the KU Endowment Association. Theresa provides the Kansas Board of Regents with KU’s agenda items for monthly meetings at the Board office.
Theresa enjoys golfing and doting on her granddaughter.
Kristina has been with the University of Kansas since March of 2000. She is the Senior Administrative Assistant to Theresa Gordzica, Chief Business & Financial Planning Officer. Kristina oversees Theresa Gordzica's calendar, personal correspondence, and travel plans as well as processes gifts and bequests to the University. Kristina represents the office as a sustainability ambassador working to further promote greener practices on KU campus.
Prior to coming to KU, Kristina worked 8 years for the Department of Revenue in Topeka.
Kristina holds a Bachelor Degree in English Literature from Washburn University. She enjoys reading, playing pool, and rockin’ the chalk for our Jayhawks.
Mary came to the Office of B&FP in 2006. She assists the Chief Business and Financial Planning Officer and her duties include review of bond financing documents and documentation of compliance of use of the bond proceeds. Mary reviews various statistics and financial reporting and coordinates the Kansas Board of Regents Insurance Policy.
Before coming to Business & Financial Planning, Mary worked at a local CPA firm and in KU’s Internal Audit Department.
Mary enjoys spending time with family and friends and chasing her dog Cairo around the neighborhood.
