Air Force ROTC - Det 280

The Privacy Act of 1974, Title 5 U.S.C. § 552a, establishes a code of fair information practice that governs the collection, maintenance, use, and dissemination of personally identifiable information about individuals that is maintained in systems of records by federal agencies. A system of records is a group of records under the control of an agency from which information is retrieved by the name of the individual or by some identifier assigned to the individual. The Privacy Act prohibits the disclosure of information from a system of records absent the written consent of the subject individual, unless the disclosure is pursuant to one of twelve statutory exceptions. The Act also provides individuals with a means by which to seek access to and amendment of their records (Freedom of Information Act), and sets forth various agency record-keeping requirements.

Det 280 ALUMNI

Another year, another new freshman class, and this time it brings us some new cadre as well. We welcome Lt Col Montague D. Samuel, Det Commander and Professor of Aerospace Studies, and Capt Benjamin H. Smith, Recruiting Flight Commander and Assistant PAS, to the fold here at the Military Science Building. Our Jayhawk spirit, however, is still the same and going strong. Total cadet strength is currently at 63, and each year brings a more competitive recruitment class. With midterms finishing up, we are well on our way on our mission to Recruit, Train, and Commission the Best 2nd Lieutenants in the US Air Force. Rock, Chalk!

In August we were excited to receive notice about a Flying Jayhawk receiving an unusual award from the German Ministry of Defense. Lt Col Brynt "Woody" Query (photo by Wiel Borghans), KU class of '92-93, was awarded the Ehrenkreuz der Bundeswehr on 29 July of this year. Please check out the link to the edition of NATO Sky Watch to read the whole front page story on his achievement. Congratulations, Lt Col Query!

If you, or another alumnus you know, has also been honored or given a spot in the limelight, please let us know and we'll be sure to feature you/him/her on our website. If you have any comments or suggestions, do tell us! We are always looking for ways to reach out to the people who have graced the halls of the Military Science Building on the KU campus. Maybe it's been 1 year since you graduated - maybe 50 - but you'll be one of us forever: a Flying Jayhawk.

Finally, we've been given the chance to draw upon our rich heritage and set up an Endowment Fund through the official KU Endowment system. We're halfway to our goal of $10,000 to endow the fund that has been established and we hope you out there can help take us the rest of the way (or further!). You put your time into the hallowed halls here at KU, now it's our hope you might care to assist with funding the success of our cadets and the future of our Air Force. If you choose, you can donate by means of the link below. Any amount you can give is greatly appreciated and will be used directly to benefit our cadets.

P.S. If you haven't already, sign up with the KU Alumni Association and we can more easily stay in touch with you.

Keep checking back for more information on events this year; it's going to be a good one!
