Housing and Meals
McCollum Hall
KU residence halls are home for anywhere from 300 to 900 students. That gives the halls a broad mix of people and interests to fuel a variety of activities. The most popular events evolve into hall traditions. But incoming residents (that's you!) always add new voices.
Most residence hall rooms measure 12 1/2' x 15' and come with window blinds, beds, dressers, desks and chairs. The AEC will provide each student with 2 sheets, a pillow, a pillowcase, and a blanket at no charge. There is one large community bathroom per wing.
A wing consists of 18 to 20 rooms; there are two wings to a floor in every hall except McCollum, which has three, and GSP/Corbin, where each wing is considered a floor. Floor lobbies resemble "living rooms" with people watching TV, studying, napping, visiting or playing dominoes. Academic Resource Centers in each hall contain a number of study aids as well as providing the setting for tutoring services; other study areas are scattered throughout the facilities. Halls may feature special activity rooms for ping-pong or pool, drafting, cooking or music practice. All have coin-operated and card-read laundry equipment.
All halls feature in-room network connections (direct lines to the internet and campus systems). All in-room network connections are arranged through KU Network and Telecommunications Services (NTS) by paying an optional user fee. To have service activated in your room or learn more about the options available, visit ResNet (http://www.nts.ku.edu/resnet/); an informational page provided by Network and Telecommunication Services.
In coed facilities, men occupy one wing of a floor and women the other, with a shared adjoining lobby. Coeducational halls have an escort policy which must be obeyed by residents when visiting a floor or wing occupied by the opposite sex.
Resident assistants live on each wing and work hard to help you learn the ropes, from meeting new people to interpreting your class schedule to recommending activities that you'll enjoy.
Mrs. E's Dining
Informally called "Mrs. E's," the Ekdahl Dining Commons is located atop Daisy Hill, adjacent to Lewis Hall. This facility features "food court-style" service where different stations offer specialized items such as pasta, salads and sandwiches, a pizzaria, and a grill. Choose from 8-10 entrees at each meal! Extended serving hours accommodate students with busy class and work schedules. The dining commons provides 700 seats on three levels, with wrap-around windows and a spectacular view of campus. It's an ideal place for meeting friends.
