Travel Information

Flying into Kansas City International Airport, Missouri (MCI)

The Kansas City airport is a one-hour drive from Lawrence, Kansas where the University of Kansas is located. Staff from the AEC will meet you at the airport and assist you in catching the bus to Lawrence. We will be coordinating the bus schedule based upon flight itineraries you provide us. As soon as you receive your itinerary, please email the details to Geri Lamer at glamer@ku.edu. She will then send you details about the bus schedule and the time you will be boarding the bus to Lawrence. If your flight arrives very late at night, shuttle arrangements will be made for you and Geri will send you an email with information about your shuttle.

Kansas City is a fairly small city and the Kansas City airport is a small-city airport. It will probably not be as busy as the city airports you are used to. It has three terminals in a "clover" formation. This makes it very easy to navigate both inside and outside the airport. Each terminal only has one hallway and each baggage claim area has an exit to the outside where the bus will be picking you up.

Once you have debarked the plane, an AEC staff member will be waiting for you at the gate with sign that reads: WELCOME UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS FULBRIGHT PROGRAM GRANTEES. Do not take a taxi. The price for a taxi from the airport to Lawrence is $100-$150.

The staff member will help you find your luggage and catch the appropriate bus to Lawrence. In some cases, you may need to wait at the airport for an hour or so until the bus returns from an earlier shuttle. The staff member will have a welcome packet full of information for you and will be happy to answer any questions you have while you wait.

If you have a delay at any point on your journey, please contact Geri Lamer at (785)-766-7237. She will reschedule you on a later bus and make sure a staff member meets you when you land. There will also be an AEC staff member at the dormitory where you will be living to help you get checked in when you arrive in Lawrence.

We hope your journey is a safe one and we look forward to meeting you.
