Accrediting Committee to meet March 24
at the Westin Chicago River North Hotel

The Accrediting Committee will meet Saturday, March 24, in the Grant-Lincoln Room of the Westin Chicago River North Hotel, 320 N. Dearborn St. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. and will end at approximately 5 p.m.

You may make hotel reservations by calling 312-329-7000 Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. When you call, ask for the Accrediting Committee rooms. The operator will answer as the Sheraton-Westin River North. This is the best number to call for reservations. You can also call 800-937-8461, a Westin Hotel number, anytime. If you tell them the rate plan ID (17843) and the nights you want, it will be easier to find the Accrediting Committee listing.

Deadline for reservations is Friday, March 2. Rate per night is $169 plus tax.

The notebooks with the site team reports and the meeting agenda will be sent to Accrediting Committee members Wednesday, March 14, by FedEx second-day service. If you want your notebook sent to an address other than the one listed in the current booklet, please contact Cheryl at cklug@ku.edu or call 785-864-3973.

Council to Meet May 4-5 in Portland to Make Accreditation Decisions

The Accrediting Council will meet May 4-5 in Portland, Ore. The Council will make accreditation decisions on Friday, May 4, and conduct other business on Saturday morning, May 5. The Saturday meeting will end no later than noon. Hotel and other meeting information will be sent in early March.

Rooms for Council members are reserved for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at the Westin Hotel in Portland. The rate is $99 per night.

President Keyes Appoints Nominations Committee

Accrediting Council President Saundra Keyes appointed the following to the Nominations Committee: Will Norton, dean, College of Journalism and Mass Communications, University of Nebraska, chair; Paul Parsons, professor and dean, School of Communications, Elon University, Elon N.C., and Connie Frazier, executive vice president, Mosaic Center and Educational Services, Washington, DC, and representing the American Advertising Federation (AAF). The Nominations Committee will recommend to the Council for approval at the May meeting a candidate for president and vice president and members of the Accrediting Committee.

2007– 2008 site visit schedule

The Council will send 16 site-visit teams to schools in the 2007– 2008 academic year. Schools marked with an asterisk are seeking accreditation for the first time; the rest seek re-accreditation. In addition, five schools are scheduled for revisits in 2007-08. Those schools are Auburn University, Florida A&M University, New York University, Southern University and Winston-Salem State University.

Dean of the Donald W. Reynolds School of Journalism,
University of Nevada, Reno, Dies in Car Accident

Cole Campbell, 53, dean of the journalism school at the University of Nevada, Reno, was killed Jan. 5 in a car accident in Reno. Campbell, a former editor of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk, Va., became dean of the Donald W. Reynolds School of Journalism in July 2004.
