Carla Lloyd

Carla Lloyd teaches advertising and mass communications courses. Prof. Lloyd has been teaching for 21 years, 20 of them at the Newhouse School. She has served two terms as department chair, totaling nine years. In that time, she created and implemented a new undergraduate advertising curriculum and raised funds to design and outfit a multi-media Advertising/PR teaching lab. Prior to joining Syracuse University, she taught at the University of Miami of Ohio's marketing department. She recently served as a tenured Arts & Sciences professor at Penn State - Erie/The Behrend College (1999-2000).

Before entering the academy, Professor Lloyd worked as a promotion manager at Putman Publishing in Chicago and as an account executive at The Provo Daily Herald in Provo, Utah. She holds a Ph.D. in sociology from SU's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. Her research focuses on advertising media planning as well as the portrayal of gender roles in advertising. In addition, she is an active advertising consultant and freelancer who has recently completed projects for Chase Design's clients, Procter and Gamble and Sentry Gun Safes.
