U.S. copyright law protects all "original works fixed in a medium of expression." Therefore almost all published material and electronic material is copyrighted even though a copyright notice is not visible.

The copyright law gives to the copyright holder exclusive rights, including the right to copy the work. The best way to avoid a copyright violation for electronic material is to provide a hyperlink to the material where it exists. This should always be your first choice.
