What Is GIS?

GIS (Geographic Information System) software allows you to envision the geographic aspects of a body of data. It lets you query or analyze a database and receive the results in the form of a map.

KU offers ArcGIS software products from Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI): ArcGIS includes two desktop products: ArcView and ArcInfo. ArcInfo, is widely recognized as the most powerful and most complete GIS package. ArcView makes many of these capabilities available via an easy-to-learn desktop user interface. Visit the ESRI website for more information about GIS, ESRI, and ESRI products.
