The number one crime on campus is Theft. Property that is unsecured
or left unattended is most at risk. Don't become a victim of theft.
- Never leave your backpack, books, or other personal items unattended
in a library, restroom, or other public place.
- Keep your residence or residence hall door locked when you are away,
even for a short time. Lock the doors and close the windows on your
car when it is parked.
- Do not leave valuable items in a location where it can be seen from the outside of the vehicle. If your vehicle has a stereo with a removable face plate, take the face plate off the stereo and take it with you.
- Don't carry anything attached to key ring that indicates your address.
If your keys are lost or stolen, someone would know where the keys fit.
- Don't carry you driver's license or other form of ID inside your checkbook.
If your checks get lost or stolen, someone would have access to your
identification.
- Lock your computer or laptop to a table, desk, or other object that will make theft difficult. There are many different types of locks and vendors for the locks that can be located on the internet or in local stores.
- Engrave your property with your with an owner applied number. Engravers may be borrowed from KU Public Safety Office or the residence hall
front desk.
- Lock your bicycle by placing a good quality U-lock through the frame
and at least one wheel.
Record your serial numbers and engraved numbers and KEEP THIS INFORMATION
IN A SAFE PLACE. If you become a victim of theft, these numbers will
help to identify the property as yours and help in the return if it is
recovered.
