Public Safety Office Overview
The KU Public Safety Office
is comprised of the Police Services Division and Civilian Services Division.

Police Services Division:

Patrol Unit: is a 24 hour operation employing commissioned
law enforcement personnel. Uniformed officers patrol the campus using foot patrols and in marked police cars. Officers respond to a variety
of calls for service and assistance, conduct criminal investigations,
and make arrests when appropriate. Officers provide assistance at large
gatherings such as athletic events and concerts.
Police Support Unit: is comprised of the Investigations Section and the Community Support Section. The Investigations Section is comprised of two Detectives that assist the Patrol Unit with criminal investigations. The Community Support Section personnel consist of one Sergeant and one Officer. They
provide educational safety programs and information to various campus
organizations.
Civilian Services Division:

Security Section:
consists of two Safety & Security Officers
II, and six Safety & Security Officers I.
Security officers are uniformed, noncommissioned personnel working a variety
of hours, seven days a week securing offices and buildings. Security officers
also report potential safety and maintenance hazards that may exist in
and around buildings.

Voice, Data & Record Management: consists of three Sections; Electronic Monitoring, Emergency Communications and Records and Computing. The Emergency Communications Section has a Public Administrator,
one Communications Supervisor and seven communications specialist. Communications personnel are on-duty 24 hours a day
answering emergency and non-emergency calls. Communications personnel
monitor and dispatch Police, Fire, and Medical Units, as well as Maintenance
and Parking Department Personnel. The Electronic Monitoring Section has student hourly employees that monitor the electronic surveillance system for the University. Records and Computing Section is responsible for maintaining the KU Public Safety Office's data and the appropriate release of that data in the form of records.

Administrative Clerical Section: consists of two Administrative Specialist. The personnel are responsible for payroll, budget, accounts payable, and personnel management for the entire office.
