Program in Art History
Summary of Master's Degree Requirements:
A. European & American art
history candidates should complete
1. 30 graduate hours (i.e.,
500 or higher level courses), with an overall GPA of 3.0 or better.
These hours are to include:
a. One 3-hour course in
each of the following areas: Ancient/Medieval, Renaissance/Baroque,
and Modern/American.
b. 15 hours of 600 or higher
seminars, 6 hours of which must be taken at the 800 level or
higher. Asian students 9 hours of 600 or 700. 2.
One 3-hour non-Western course. This course may be numbered below
500 (i.e., an undergraduate course), but only if it is at the
500 level or above will it count towards the 30 hours required
in A.1.
B. Asian art history candidates
should complete:
Balanced distribution of 500 or higher level courses
in Chinese and Japanese art.
6 hours of 600 or 700 level seminars
6 hours of 800 or 900 level seminars
C. Pass the Master's degree comprehensive
exam.
Students must complete all M.A. requirements,
including the 30 hours of coursework, by the end of the term in
which they take the M.A. exams.
